Ann Arbor, MI

September 16, 2018

9am – 10:30am

Present:   Sonya Freiband, David Freiband, Karen Weber, Brian Ashin, Peter Wood, Alice Michael, Keri Warren, Debra Hutton

1. Secretary: D. Hutton

The minutes of the meeting of May 20, 2018 were approved.

2. President: S. Freiband welcomed Brian Ashin as a new board member.

Requested that members begin thinking about board positions for next year. Positions available will be: Programs, Training, Treasurer, Secretary, President Elect and Members at Large. Successful recruitment has traditionally been an in-person conversation.

MCPP is continuing the ACCESS program which offers low fee supervision for a year. ACCESS also offers low fee analysis to candidates.

Anyone heading a committee, please submit their budgets at the next meeting.

Per David Klein and Reena Lieberman, MCPP has old bulletins that need for a home. Suggestions were made to give them as gifts to the current students and Peter Wood asked for some for his waiting room.

This year MCPP will host a retreat for all MCPP members on June 1, 2019. Per the bylaws, MCPP is required to conduct a self-evaluation retreat every three years, with the topic focusing on an issue related to the organization. Traditionally, this year, the retreat would be held in East Lansing, as the venue alternates between Ann Arbor and East Lansing. A suggestion to hold it mid-way between the two cities was proposed and entertained. A retreat committee was formed with members being Sonya Freiband, Alice Michael and Brian Ashin. The chair position for the committee is still open, with the preference that it be filled by a member from East lansing.

3. President Elect: Peter Wood requested that MCPP reevaluate course fees and instructor compensation.

4. Education and Training: Sonya reported that the classes are well attended, with 10 students who have signed up for the year long course. The current program is 6 segments of 5 weeks each. The cost of the class is $1,500 per student for the year.

Discussion regarding building on this progress ensued.

6. Programs: D Freiband reported that speakers have been secured for the academic year. The format of the symposium is still being worked through. The date of the symposium is March 17, 2019 from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM. The shortened day reflects the attrition that often occurred in the afternoons of the previous seminars. The topic will be, Engaging Someone in Analytic Work: The making of a patient.

7. Treasurer: Keri Warren presented the Treasurer’s Report

10. Committee Reports:

Membership: Sonya reported that Lisa Larson has been updating the mailing lists and that the membership drive has started.

A motion passed to raise both the late fee and the student fee to $25, and to set the deadline to January 1st.

Visiting Professor: This year’s visiting professor will be Neville Symington. The dinner and presentation will be held in mid-April.

CE- Ralph Hutchison has submitted materials to APA for reaccreditation

Meeting adjourned at 10:30am.

NOTES respectfully submitted by Debra Hutton, board secretary.

Note: it is MCPP policy that Board meetings are open to all MCPP members. Priority is given to Board members to address issues, but all MCPP members may speak at meetings, time permitting.
