MICHIGAN COUNCIL FOR
PSYCHOANALYSIS & PSYCHOTHERAPY

Membership

MCPP warmly welcomes new and renewing members to our organization. We are an eclectic and interdisciplinary group of clinicians, teachers and students of

psychoanalysis (classical and contemporary) and we celebrate heterogeneity in thinking and in practice. Our meetings are lively and thoughtful and we celebrate

diversity of perspective. Many new members have commented on the relaxed, friendly, and non- intimidating atmosphere of our group which is especially

welcoming of early career clinicians.

Being a dues paying member enables us to bring in nationally and internationally known speakers for our monthly meetings and enables us as well to provide classes for those members who are interested in focused study and furthering their knowledge and skills. By signing up to become a member you are automatically able to receive continuing education credits (psychology as well as social workcompletely free of charge for all of our meetings. On occasion, we also offer special conferences for members only, which allow for more intimate and focused opportunities for learning and discussion.

For the past two years, our monthly meetings and symposia have been offered online, providing a safe and easily accessible venue for gathering together and for

continuing scholarship at a time of distancing and isolation. At this time, we are delighted to resume our in-person meetings. We eagerly anticipate the pleasures of

seeing one another again and meeting with our presenters in person. At the same time, we are aware that some of our members may still prefer to attend virtually for health and convenience reasons and for that reason we are choosing to structure our meetings with a hybrid format, allowing individuals far and wide to attend in whatever manner feels best. In offering a hybrid model we are welcoming the opportunity to be together in person while not having to forgo the advantages that

the zoom platform has offered to us. This is an experiment in progress, and we will evaluate it as we move into this new academic year.

Given that so many of our members spend much of our time siloed in private practice, the gathering space of MCPP connects us to one another and helps to bridge the inevitable isolation and even loneliness that private practice (especially in the last few years) can bring. Whether it is because of the considerable financial advantage of receiving continuing education credits free of charge, the opportunity to participate in stimulating monthly meetings and symposia, or the wish to affiliate with an extraordinarily thoughtful and diverse group of clinicians, MCPP welcomesyou as a new or renewing member and sincerely hopes to include you in our psychoanalytic “home”.
