MCPP Board of Directors Meeting Minutes May 2018

Present: Sonya Freiband, David Freiband, Margaret Sweet, Michael Rudy, Lisa Larson, Robert Hooberman, Karen Weber, Keri Warren, Alice Michael, Peter Wood, Ralph Hutchison
Secretary: A. Michael filling in for D. Hutton. The minutes of the meeting of April 15, 2018 were approved with minor changes.
President: S. Freiband
Offered gratitude for the year together as a board - a productive year. Particular thanks to R Hooberman for his long standing service on the Board, which comes to a close with this meeting.
Banquet registration is open - growing slowly (n = 14 currently). Discussed practical details.
Treasurer: K. Warren
Provided overview of expenses and resources of the organization, money flow for last month.
Reports taxes are underway.
Influx of funds will come from the Lovinger fund (roughly 1k to cover the costs of this presentation).
Rudy expressed appreciation for Warren’s time and effort as treasurer.
Membership: L. Larson
95 renewals currently, reviewed numbers of new members in different categories (new professionals, students). Offered brief list of members who haven’t renewed to consider forms of outreach.
Discussed list from symposium to recruit possible students for the 1 year training opportunity.
Sweet will send list to Larson to facilitate opportunities to recruit from recent attendees.
Sweet, Warren, S Freiband, A Michael, Wood volunteered to print and send out invitations and information (flyer/brochure) to people on the list. Discussion of other advertising opportunities.
Wood suggested distributing email now, mail brochure once available.
Education and Training: P Sweet
Discussion of candidates: Motion to approve R Hutchinson as a certified analyst. Approved unanimously.
Expressed gratitude for the input for the planning for the 1-year program, which is coming along well — new name announced: Fundamentals of Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy
Programs: D. Freiband
Brainstorming with Board to consider speakers to ask to fill 3 vacant times for 2018-19 calendar. Freiband welcomes other ideas or strategies for approaching people to invite them to speak.
March will be a symposium - considered possible topics, with consolidated interest in the theme of how to make person the patient/deepening the treatment/Engagement: Larson offered a potential case as a focal point to frame discussants’ remarks.
Weber offered idea of “what is curative” (endorsed as good idea for future year).
Venue needs to be identified and reserved; ideas about shortening the event to a 4 hour (eg, 9am-1pm). Weber will help with the practical tasks of preparation.

Visiting Professor: R. Hooberman
Neville Symington will be the visiting professor for the mid-April meeting 2019. Susan Flinders at MPI is coordinating contact.

CEUs for Psychology : R Hutchinson
Call for assistance for the task of sign in/issuing certificate at meetings.
Renewal application for certification will happen this fall - would appreciate someone to assist/apprentice.

Finances are adequate.
Several supervisions are winding down, discussed i whether to advertise the program, decision to hold off — need to recruit more supervisors if seeking to expand the program.
