MCPP Board of Directors Meeting  March 2025 Minutes


Virtual Meeting, March 23, 2025, 9am-10:30am

Present: David Freiband, Marissa Keep, Linda Young, Carol Stratman, Shil Sengupta, Miriam Lorrain, Karen Weber, Lisa Larson


President: D. Freiband

Freiband voted to approve Sengupta’s February Minutes. Frei seconded. Board passed unanimously.

MPCF Seeking Replacement Board Members

  • Freiband had spoken with Reena Lieberman to garner additional details regarding this request, to specify what MCPP’s role is in helping MPCF find replacement Board members.
  • Freiband elaborated that MPCF is planning on making decisions how to move forward as an organization based on how MCCP moves forward. Identifying Bylaws Person to be on Website
  •  Decided to come back to this issue when Waiess is present for subsequent meetings.

Status of Recruiting for Co-VP for Programs & President Elect.

  • Lorrain had two people in mind from Grand Rapids, both of whom have some interest.
  • Lorrain is meeting next weekend with one of them: he and Lorrain are going to talk more about Co-VP position.
  • This person requires modifications to some of our requirements – re: attending board meetings in person
  • Freiband has identified one person for President who may be viable, but who is waiting to see if we find Co-VP for programs.
  • Discussion ensued regarding importance of prospective President being from inside the Board and/or the organization.
  • Young suggested that prospective President would not need to have as much institutional knowledge as past Presidents based on institution no longer being training institute, given that our current focus is education and social connection.

Recruiting Access Students Update

  • Freiband had followed up with Sonya Freiband about the current functioning of the ACCESS program (as a means of recruiting younger professionals to the organization).
  • Foundation (MCPF) has roughly $25,000 primarily going toward ACCESS programs.
  • ACCESS program currently has 3 willing supervisors affiliated with the program.
  • Board resolved that announcing this discounted supervision opportunity would be helpful in bringing younger clinicians into the organization.
  • Lorrain will announce at today’s and subsequent meetings that MCPP has an ACCESS program affording low fee supervision for early career clinicians.

Treasurer: T. Frei

  • Total Net worth down approximately $5000 from last month, but that is primarily due to stock market fluctuations, reflected in the Schwab account
  • During this period, the organization was otherwise profitable.

Key costs:

  • Approximately $500 for APA required yearly fees for CE credits
  • $1500 for Honorarium and Dinner for MPI Visiting Professor Dinner, even factoring in attendees’ payments for the dinner/talk.
  • Freiband elaborated that there is an upfront minimum cost for the venue, with the cost per person decreasing if the number of people increase.

Co-Vice Presidents of Programming: M. Lorrain

General Remarks on upcoming Meetings

  •  Arrangement for Malin Fors workshop on April 13,
  • Costs: $1000 for travel, $2000 for presentation (because presentation is twice as long as normal).

Details Regarding Dinner Arrangements Night Prior to Workshop.

  • Fors confirmed excitement about pre-event dinner night at Paesano’s.
  • Keep volunteered to host the dinner prior to the day of the workshop, inAvrin’s absence.
  • Lorrain and Young will coordinate to pick up/drop off Fors from the airport. Restaurant/lunch Day of Event
  •  Lorrain researched available restaurants the day of the event in case Fors and a small group informally decide to go out to lunch.
  •  Freiband confirmed that MCPP will pay for Fors’s lunch in case of this outing.
  • Weber confirmed: 51 attendees for today’s Lecture, 10 for subsequent event next month.
  • Attendees reviewed aspects of visiting professor event prior Thursday regarding the quality of presentation and food service.
  • Freiband discussed revisiting the cost-effectiveness/value of the Visiting Professor dinner event in the future.

Membership: Linda Young, Lisa Larson

  • Weber highlighted much greater facility with membership renewals now that the $140 for the analyst certificate had been removed.

Promotion/Advertising of MCPP Events

  • Keep re-sent the template for student recruitment to all the Board members (including Stratman who specifically requested it), so they have it fo recruitment to the organization.
  • Stratman shared that the administrator for Sollars and Associates Group practice offered to disseminate emails promoting the monthly MCPP events.
  • Stratman added that Barry Dauphin/ University of Detroit Mercy & Kevin Keenan/ Michigan School have already been disseminating aforementioned emails to students.
  • Lorrain confirmed that the EMU director of clinical training will also allow dissemination of MCPP information to students.
  • Keep added that a number of students outside of Michigan she had communicated with don’t know that they can sign up for events in Michigan; that she plans on clarifying this issue in future mailings.

Freiband motioned to adjourn the meeting, Stratman seconded. Board passed

unanimously. Meeting adjourned.


Next MCPP Board Meeting will be held at the Michigan League on April 13, 2025 at

8am.
